Do what you love and love what you do

“Someone who does not do what he loves in life misses his life.”
GINO VANNELLI

It is said that two out of three workers do not like their job. A Towers Perrin study revealed that 80% of people say they are “dissatisfied” with their jobs.

That is, two-thirds of the working population get up backwards, meet with clients, attend meetings and work overtime while dreaming of doing something else. Why do they do it? For safety? To please their parents? So they don’t lose what they’ve built? But when you don’t like what you do, what have you got to lose?

I know what it’s like to be in this situation. If it’s yours – or someone you know, I sympathize. I’ve been there. I went to a four-year university to become an accountant, which is what my father expected of me. Even altering that ill-fated path by branching out into sales, I was miserable.

Like millions of people, I learned that to succeed, you had to work hard, toil, and hurt. The more I resisted doing what I loved, the more my heart choked. It became unbearable. On the verge of cracking, I gave up everything (the pension fund, the weeks of vacation, the insurance programs, the group RRSPs, the office friends, the business trips, the bi-weekly salary) to pursue my dream of becoming a speaker.

While I was barely an apprentice trainer at a well-known firm, in the first year I doubled my income. The most fascinating thing was that I didn’t feel like I was working. I had become myself for a living. And I wasn’t… sick anymore – I still had a cold, the flu, bronchitis.

By continuing to work against the grain, we not only end up burning out, but we destroy our self-esteem by maintaining a cloud of personal dissatisfaction in our mind that dampens our inner joy and provokes anger. joy and provokes anger.

Tell yourself that no matter what your dream job or profession is, someone is making a living at it. Whether it is artistic, athletic or entrepreneurial, anything is possible. And this, regardless of your age (see article Finding your way late in life). What’s stopping you? What other people will think? Lack of confidence or courage? Safety? These are not reasons. Those are excuses.

Even in the ideal job, there are things you won’t like doing. So I suggest you love what you do even if you don’t necessarily do everything you love. It is better to put joy in your actions than to expect to get joy from your actions. You don’t sing because you are happy, you are happy because you sing.

Invest time regularly in what you love most. Get a guidance counselor or coach if you need to. People and events will manifest themselves to lead you down the path that is yours. What you are looking for is looking for you. All you have to do is take the first step. Do what you love. Do not miss your life.
